Love this...

As an only child from a tiny family of assorted "onlies" and a handful of those that choose not to reproduce two-leggeds, self included, for reasons we no longer care to discuss. LOL

I don't carry as much baggage as some might, and I am known to throw things away (ask my hubs) well before their sell-by-date.

Yet, there are a handful of items, here and there in our little world, mostly hanging ~ if I don't SEE it, it may not really exist ~ that call my heart to those who held them before I. Fondly.

When a neighbor, with whom I had had a rather raucous relationship, across our road got sick and shortly made his transition to non-physical, we were part of the self-appointed helpers to clean his home and ready it for his family to take charge. I took an old colander, the one with the star-shaped holes that was just like my mother & grandmother's. It hangs above my sink now and is well used and much loved. Reminding me not just of cranky ole Nick (the neighbor) but my womenfolk, too.

Lots of extended "comment" there for ya! ho ho

Interesting little story Oguru. I love that one of your cherished well-used objects, the 'ole Nick's colander, found its place at home with you despite your raucous relationship! In the end, perhaps an object is just an object, but perhaps it can also have the effect of healing an otherwise contentious relationship.

In my house, well organized and in their places, I have way too many things. Aside from the natural objects that I collect- stones, crystals, shells, cool birds' nests, most of those other things have been gifted or passed on to me. I've always felt that these objects carry some of the energy of those who have given them to me, and so, I am reluctant to let them go. Every day I wear something that was once worn by my mother, and though she has been gone more than ten years, this practice still allows me to feel close to her.

Lovely way to keep your mom close at heart & in mind.

It's good to remember we are all connected, in any way we can.

Thank you for your reply.
